What DNS Checker measures
The tool queries DNS servers in dozens of countries at once and shows what each one currently returns for your record, so you can see the old and new values side by side.
How to read your result
Green ticks mean that location has the new value. Mixed results are normal for a few hours after a change. How long full propagation takes is set by the TTL on the record, so a record with a 24 hour TTL can take a full day even though the change was instant at your provider.
What to change first
Lower the TTL on a record to 300 seconds a day before you plan to change it. The change then propagates in minutes rather than hours, which matters a great deal during a site migration.
Common questions
- How long does DNS propagation take?
- Between a few minutes and 48 hours, set mostly by the TTL that was on the record before you changed it.
- Why do I still see the old site?
- Your computer and your router cache DNS too. Flush your local DNS cache or test on a different network.
